On Wednesday 31st August, I hosted the second round of The Clandestine Cake Club in Cambridge.
The Theme? – “Too Cool For School”.
Now, what the heck is the Clandestine Cake Club I can hear you asking your screen?…. Well, if you are passionate about eating cake. Or you are passionate about baking cakes and you haven’t yet heard of the UK’s largest growing cake clubs, then check out the lovely Lynn Hill and her ever expanding cake-inspired website titled Clandestine Cake Club.
It’s not a competition, who’s cake is better than who’s, it’s purely for anybody who has a love of cake.
You bake a cake, or tag along with a person who will bake you a cake (hehe ; ) and you join us at a pre-arranged location to drink tea & coffee and eat cake… naturally!
What is not to love about this concept?!
And a heck of a lot of Cambridge-based people agreed with this exact statement last week, with 25 guests joining us at the fabulous Greens Coffee Company in Cambourne, we all met at 6pm to purchase their lovely beverages and take over their coffee shop for a couple of hours…. And boy did we take over! Julie & Aron were saints, allowing us to make a mess and lot’s of noise and laughter for this duration- They stayed open especially for us to all meet and I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality.
All of my lovely guests said how great it was to try a new coffee shop, that they had heard about them but don’t always get a chance to drive out from Cambridge to try them, hurrah. It’s a great spot at any time of the week if you get a chance to visit Julie and Co.
So back to the cake… We had so many guests, some even traveling from Kent and Essex to join us for the evening, so thank you ALL so much for making the effort and making the evening so much fun.
There was such a buzz, and guests were all tucking in without having to be asked twice!
the conversation was all about cake, which is the name of the game, and some guests had really done their homework… knowing that the record amount of slices eaten in one Clandestine Cake Club sitting was in fact 12 slices at the Edinburgh Cake Club… And that takes some serious beating!… Not at this event though I am mixed emotionally to report hehe. (It could be a good thing, as I can’t imagine that is a pretty feeling hehe)
Just some of the cakes on the table at this evening event were as follows:
Chocolate Courgette Cake
Marble Cake
Apple & Cinnamon Cake
*Tuck Shop* Inspired Cake
Strawberry & White Chocolate Sponge
Vanilla Cake with White Chocolate & Raspberry Swiss Meringue Buttercream
Banana Cake
Poppy Seed & White Chocolate Cake
Lemon Drizzle Cake
Chocolate Fudge Cake
Orange & Grand Marnier Cake
Pimms Pound Loaf with Clotted Cream & Fresh Fruit
And the list goes on still!…..
It was an AMAZING turn out for our second round of this fun club, and such an equally amazing effort from absolutely everybody!
Thank you to everybody who made this happen, and please do spread the word!…. The third Clandestine Cake Club – Cambridge will be reappearing around Xmas time! Wahoooo!
