D:licious is a hidden gem on an otherwise boring business filled location in a fantastic secluded location within Histon, just off the A14 on the outskirts of Cambridge.
Situated literally on top of the picturesque duck pond in the middle of Vision Park on Chivers Way (yes, the home of Chivers Jam don’t you know!?) D:licious is a coffee & sandwich bar that has me and hundreds of other regulars coming back for more every day of the week.
Firstly, Musa and his small team are ever so friendly and they welcome you with a smile every time you walk in, no matter how stressed you are, it’s a welcome coffee break stop no matter what the weather. The staff stay and don’t change very often which is a very good sign in how they are treated there, it’s refreshing to see in this industry and you can see that they respect their boss & their workplace which makes it such a great little place.
It took Musa a while to realise my name wasn’t really Sue Flay which had me in stitches when it finally clicked, I loveplaying with people and when the penny dropped it just got us chatting even more, which is fantastic, as you all know how much I like to get to know coffee and cake shop owners and help to support where I can when I
believe in what they’re doing : )
The great thing about him as a manager is that he is always there with a smile on his face too, getting stuck in helping his customers.
Their coffee isn’t your usual bog standard offerings, oh no!… They serve great quality coffees including my fave, a Café Mocha as well as a fab selection of teas and a new selection of Chai Teas too. Averaging at around £1.80 for a coffee,
In the summer the perfect drink to settle on is their Iced Coffee, which rivals all bigger brand iced drinks, hands down, it’s the perfect cold caffeine kick, trust me, it’s got me through many a rough mid morning during the hotter months!
As it’s been so snowy and cold lately, I decided to give their new Hot Chocolate range a go, with the added bonus of D:licious being the only place in Cambridge that I am aware of that serves a selection of flavoured white hot chocolates!… And oh my goodness, they are delicious, not being as heavy as a standard hot choc, it feels as though you are actually being quite good on your diet… ahem!
They come in orange, mint or a standard white chocolate flavour and they are creamy and perfect for a sweet fix to get you through the afternoon, give them a go if you have a sweet tooth when it comes to your hot drinks – Just delicious!
As well as offering a corporate catering service, their sandwich and panini range is varied and if you fancy something not on the menu, they are more than happy to accommodate your cravings and make you a fresh roll or sarnie up whilst you wait. With jacket potatoes on the menu too, you don’t need anything else to eat for the rest of the day after one of theses bad boys, they are huge, filling and a great option to eat in or take away.
There is a tall bar and seating area to seat around 6 people, so it’s not huge, but when the sun is out, the spreading picnic benches outside on the terrace are perfect, offering the best sun trap around, you can even spot the huge carp and terrapins in the water as you nibble or watch the ducks fight over your crusts, they are amusing!
Their cakes are also delicious, reminding me of the sort of cakes you used to get from “Nadia’s Bakery” back in the day (if you are an old school Cambridge reader, you will know what I mean ; ) and their tray bakes are a fab match to go with your cuppa.
Having done some taste testing myself, I can highly rate their Millionaires Shortbread, Cornflake Cake or the Oat & Almond Slice which is almost like a bake well made with oats… So good!
If you ever find yourself in or near Histon and in need of a cuppa or a lunch break, or even a bacon buttie for a quick breakfast on the go, then hop onto Vision Park and pop in.
D:licious is open from 7am to 3pm every weekday and they often have deals or offers on their food and drinks, be it their £1 coffee mornings or a “National Croissant Day” deal, so it’s worth checking out their Facebook Page to keep tabs on what they have going on.
They are also currently running a free prize draw to win a lunch for you and a friend (up to the value of £10). To enter just LIKE and SHARE their Facebook page. The winner will be announced this Friday 22nd February 2013… So get in their fast!
And if you pop in, do tell them Miss Sue Flay sent you – I’m sure they will be
thrilled to hear it. And as always, I feel
it’s always great to support an independent coffee shop.

Please Note – I’m not paid or bribed to say these things, I review places of interest and items of my own accord, because I’m simply THAT geeky about tea and cake and all things in between. I pay for my own food, drink, services & products, I don’t tell the establishment or suppliers what I’m doing, unless I enjoy it so much that I want to blog about it. I then simply ask their permission to do so and I chat to them about my experience to make them aware that I (and others) have enjoyed it : )
If you would like to discuss an independent review or blog write up on any of the subjects on my blog, please do email Miss Sue Flay: cake@secludedteaparty.com for a chat.
I absolutely used to love this place! I used to work on the Vision Park and would frequent that beautifully little lake each day on my lunch hour. Do they still have the cute little turtle/terrapin things that pop up to say hello whilst you have a coffee?
They do! I think they have bred, as their are now 3 or 4 terrapins there, they sunbathe when it’s warm on the banks of the pond hehe… so cute! x
