A few months ago I had a very welcome email from a lovely lady called Alice at the Cambridgeshire Journal.
Alice wanted to talk to the mysterious Miss Sue Flay and discuss an article planned for her magazine in June of this year incorporating Afternoon tea and Cupcakes with a local spin.
How could I resist? – It sounded perfect for me, so I got into a good old email conversation with her about her plans and thoughts on how this might work.
I was very keen for her to come along to one of my Afternoon Tea Parties, however she could not make any of the dates I had planned, so we arranged to meet at a previous Tea Party venue and have a mini Secluded Tea Party of our very own!
Cut to a warm and sunny Afternoon in May and a small table with mis matching chairs at the fantastic Plurabelle Books, just off Hills Road. My favourite lunchtime haunt during the week and a book lovers haven.
I had laid the table with some vintage crockery and cake stands full of Home-made cakes and scones for my pretend guests to enjoy… A group of old trusted friends as well as some new Tea Party friends. It was great fun, and the photographer who had joined Alice was happily snapping away whilst salivating and discussing his baking skills with us as he went… As you will probably know by now, I am a sucker for a man who likes to bake, so he put a smile on my face too hehe.
The cake, I had planned to rise into a beautiful and large Victoria Sponge had actually turned out flat as a pancake, oops. Just my luck. It also didn’t help that I had used this cake for another *Appearance* earlier that day…. more info to come on the second use for this cake another day in the not so distant future, so watch this space to see it appear in a much better and apt photo shoot! (There is also a VERY good reason why it had Cadbury’s Twirls in each corner of the cake… I know it looks random… All will be explained shortly ; )
With no time to make another cake, I disguised it a little with a large Rubber Duck on top. Not my finest hour it has to be said, but we all laughed, and it still tasted good. Although, it did not appear in the final feature of the Journal, I am quite glad really!
So here it is… A copy of the FOUR PAGE spread that Alice and her Team have so kindly written up. I love the writing style, Alice has done The Secluded Tea Party proud, so thank you Alice and thank you to everyone so much for getting involved (My models included! : )
And not forgetting the Lovely Ruth at Plurabelle Books for letting us camp for an hour or two a second time… A must visit local secret!
